If you are going to read, it is fine to do it for fun. It is easier to read for pleasure than to learn about the process of writing. There is no price to suspending disbelief or questioning the authors decisions when you read for fun.

But as a writer, I also like to read more critically. To decide what the work is doing to be and ‘daylight’ intentions and outcomes, even if unintended.

So I sometimes write reviews, to assess if the work is something I am glad to have read or (sometimes) resentful that I put time into.
